DHMO
Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is the chemical systemic name that describes a liquid that is colloquially known as "water" (H20). The name DHMO refers to "Di-" as "two" (2) for "Di-Hydrogen" (Dihydrogen) meaning two Hydrogen atoms. The name DHMO refers to "Mono" as "one" (1) for "Mono-Oxygen" (Monoxide) meaning one Oxygen atom in an ionic bond (with the two Hydrogen atoms).
Using chemical nomenclature, other names for DHMO include "hydrogen oxide", "hydrogen hydroxide" (DHMO basic state), and several names for DHMO in its acidic state, such as "hydric acid" or "hydroxyl acid." (Hydroxyl acid is technically a non-standard name).
DHMO Awareness is more complex than most understand. The point of DHMO Awareness is not merely conservation of DHMO and protection of DHMO assets. The concept of DHMO Awareness is important to understand for teaching science literacy to the public and decision-makers at-large for the benefit of all Americans. Water is one of our most important resources. We must protect and preserve access to clean water.
